There are many different scents and techniques you can use to help you deer hunting big bucks. I’d like to share with you one of my favorite scent techniques for deer hunting. It can be a great way to lure big bucks well into shooting range, either with a bow or gun. There are a lot of really good deer hunting scents on the market. I especially like the ones that are 100% pure doe in heat estrus deer lure. I’ll take an old sock washed in baking soda along with my other hunting clothes. I’ll cut it out and make a long rag that I can tie around my boot and leave it long enough to drag the ground a few inches. When I am walking into a deer stand location I’ll pour the scent on the end of the rag and presto! I have a drag rag. Hopefully I will be crossing several deer trails on my way to the place I am hunting. Or maybe I’ll cross a big bucks trail, if he came down that rail and smells the scent I left with the drag rag. If I know where a trail crosses my path I will freshen up my drag rag and drag it just through the trail going towards my stand location. That way the scent will be stronger going to my stand and not away from it. Don’t over do it though, a little scent goes a long way. You also want to make sure your boots are scent free. I like the rubber bottom boots the best. When you get to your stand you can walk by it rather than straight to it and circle around back to the stand. That way the deer will follow the trail by you presenting a broadside shot. When I get close to the stand I have the rag about three or four feet up in a tree. The wind will carry the scent hopefully luring in some big bucks. Make sure to use a scent that is relevant to the time of year you are hunting. Don’t use a doe in heat scent if it’s too early for the does to be in heat. Hopefully these scents tips and techniques will work for you as they have for me.
