Deer Hunting Big Bucks Length Of Season
Do you go deer hunting big bucks during bow season, primitive weapons, and rifle season? Here in Georgia our bow season starts in early September and runs until mid to late October when rifle season starts. Primitive weapons is the second week of October and it is for a week. I know for me personally it seemed as if deer season was over in a flash this year. I have a two year old son and a seven month old son, plus we are working a lot of overtime at work. So my deer season consisted of about four full days of hunting this year all together. I did see two nice big bucks though. And I saw deer almost every time I went hunting. I think the deer hunting season in Georgia is really set up pretty good. We have a nice long bow season and a week long primitive weapons season. Rifle season is from about the third week of October, until January 1st in the Northern zone and about a week longer in the southern zone. How about the deer hunting season where you live? I am facing a possible transfer out of Georgia and I wanted to see what some other people thought about the length of the deer hunting season in their state. I looked at a couple of states hunting seasons and they seemed really short. Maybe I am spoiled here in Georgia. We have a nice long season for deer hunting big bucks. We have a lot of whitetails and some really big bucks. The season runs through the whitetail mating season. There may be a little secondary rut activity where the season is closed, but for the most part our season is during the whole mating season. So there is a good chance of seeing some big bucks during the season. Deer hunting big bucks can be a challenge. Having a nice long season to hunt sure makes a difference when trying to get that big boy. Also having a long season you get to hunt different food sources and the weather conditions can go from one extreme to another. I’ve rifle hunted in 95 degree weather and bow hunted when it was very cold. So what about where you hunt? Do you think your season is too long, too short, or just right?
