Deer Hunting Clubs For Big Bucks
If you are the process of looking for a club for deer hunting big bucks, there are a few things to think about before making a decision. If you are in Georgia, GON has a special issue every summer that has a great list of clubs by county.They also have a classified ads section in every issue. First of all you want to look at price. I know this one’s pretty obvious but there are a lot of clubs and some of them get pretty expensive. You can get in a really good club at a decent price, you just have to look around.The next thing I look at is location. I try to find something within a reasonable distance from home. I have been in deer hunting clubs all over Georgia, and it seems the farther away the club the less time I actually got to hunt. Unless you are retired or have a flexible work schedule. The closer it is, the better the chance of slipping off for a morning, evening, or midday hunt.Next I look at how many hunters, and their families, and their guest will be deer hunting. You don’t want a club that is to heavily pressured. And you want to take a good look at the rules and the consequences of rules violations. Is the club trophy managed for big bucks? If so, for how long has it been managed for trophy whitetails? If you are looking for big bucks, make sure the club has everything it takes to produce them, the food sources, trophy rules in place, genetics and so forth. Ask to see some pictures of the whitetails taken off of the property. If they have taken some big boys they will want to show you. Also think about the people that will be in the club with you. If they drink a lot and shoot every small deer that moves you may not want to be in that club.I myself am facing a possible transfer out of state to Tennessee or Kentucky, and I was born and raised in Georgia, and all of my hunting has been here. I don’t know how a Bulldog will get along around a bunch of Volunteers.(Just Kidding) So I may be looking for a club to hunt. I hope I will be able to find a good club that is well managed. I may have to hunt public land or travel back to Georgia on the weekends to hunt. I’m looking forward to hitting the lottery and not having to worry about all of that. Then I’ll just buy my own whitetail paradise.
