Saved Hunter Safety System Treestand Lifeline

Hunter Safety System Treestand Lifeline

The Hunter Safety System Treestand Lifeline saved my life.

I have been wanting to share a story about a short little hunting outing that could have went terribly wrong for me, but because I was properly connected to a Hunter Safety System Treestand Lifeline when I slipped that cold grey October afternoon, I’m here to share my story with you.

I Was Saved By The Hunter Safety System Treestand Lifeline

A winter storm was moving on this particular October afternoon in Kansas and I had just gotten home from work and had only a couple of hours to hunt. I was planning on hunting a stand that we call “The Horn Donkey Stand” where a couple of years ago I filmed my good buddy shooting a potential Kansas state record typical with a bow. You can follow that link to read about that once in a lifetime hunt.

As I made my way to the stand the wind was blowing pretty hard and it was starting to lightly snow. I mostly have to hunt by myself or not hunt at all, and not hunting just isn’t an option for me. I got to the base of the tree and tied all my gear on the ropes to pull it up once in the tree. Then I connected my safety harness vest tether to the Hunter Safety System Treestand Lifeline and up I went.

The big oak the stand is in is really tricky getting up and down the tree to and from the stand. It’s just one of those trees that you have to do a little maneuvering to get in and out of. The stand is about 25 feet high and on the side of a hill, so I had bought a Hunter Safety System Treestand Lifeline to stay safe from the time you leave the ground until you safely get back to earth.

I finally got in the stand and got all my gear up, I film all my hunts so I always have quite a bit of gear. I saw a nice buck right before dark but wasn’t able to get a shot and then waited until it was good and dark to start down. What I didn’t realize was during the hunt the snow was actually ice and the tree now had a coat of ice on it.

As I was lowering my camera to the ground I had to step on a big limb in order to keep my camera from hitting the base of the tree. When I stepped on the big ice covered limb I suddenly lost my footing and my feet slid right out from under me and the Hunter Safety System Treestand Lifeline Prussic knot caught and did it’s job and I swung against the tree and was able to get my feet back under me and was able to keep my camera from banging against the tree or dropping to the ground. Just then I realized that the $40 or $50 I spent on the Hunter Safety System Treestand Lifeline was the best $40  or $50 investment I had ever made, and had just possibly saved my life. I confidently made my way down the tree and when I got back on the ground I said a prayer and made my way back to the house.

Now I am the proud owner of 5 of the Hunter Safety System Treestand Lifelines. I have some stands that I don’t use them but all of my stands that are high up or the least bit tricky I will not hunt without a Hunter Safety System Treestand Lifeline.

I am in no way affiliated with Hunter Safety System but had to share this story with you, in hopes that I can help prevent one hunter being injured or killed by falling from a treestand. I highly recommend the Hunter Safety System Treestand Lifeline to all hunters who hunt from an elevated stand. Don’t think it can’t happen to you, it only takes one slip to change your life forever. Hunt safe everyone.

Deer Hunting Equipment Checklist

It’s time to make that deer hunting equipment checklist. Now that the season is over I have started a deer hunting equipment checklist.

Make Deer Hunting Equipment Checklist

I like to get started early getting my equipment organized and deciding what I need to upgrade and its priority on my checklist. By knowing what I need for next season early it gives me time to compare different brands and prices of the product I’m wanting to get and look for deals everywhere, weather it be online, in stores, or by word of mouth.  And by the time the season rolls around I’ll have all the things I need for a successful year of deer hunting.

Make your deer hunting equipment checklist early.

There are some things on my checklist that I need to get and some things that I want to get. I’m sure I will see a lot of things I want to get at the upcoming Monster Buck Classic.

I can’t wait to see some of the great new products they have at the show. I’m sure there will be a few things there that I just can’t leave there without. By getting started early I can get things one at a time as I have a little extra cash it’s not as hard on my wallet rather than trying to buy it all right before the season. I received a couple of gift cards for Christmas one to Cabela’s and one to Bass Pro Shopsand they will really come in handy. A big part of this website is using trail cameras.

Trail cameras are one of the most important pieces of hunting equipment for us here at deerhuntingbigbucks.com.

We like to share pictures with you on here of big bucks and I have several trail cameras but I’m wanting to get one or two more. I am having problems with one of my trail cameras and I need to replace it. In the past I have bought the less expensive devices  and I am thinking I want to get a nicer one that has all the features I am looking for. There are a few other things on my list that I will be looking for soon like a two man ladder stand, a loc-on stand and a ground blind. I also need a few other things like camouflage pants, head-net, beanie, and some gloves for bow season and some to keep me warm when it gets downright cold. As you probably know it can all add up quickly and by making a list early you can shop smarter and get the things you need in the off season by doing a little research and making sure you get what you need at the best prices and make sure you get a good quality product.

A trail camera deer hunting is a handy scouting tool.

Deer season will be here before you know it and a trail camera can be a great way to learn so much valuable information for your upcoming deer season. Some of the best places to setup a trail camera are on food plots or feeders or trails leading to and from them.  Feeding patterns such as time of day and preferred food choice are some of great information they can tell you. Also the overall health and deer population of the deer herd using your property.  How many bucks and what age they are and size? Are they shooters, management bucks, or do they need to get older? You have just got to love having help getting all of this great information on your hunting areas. They can also tell you a lot about the predators lurking around your deer hunting property.

We have had quite a few bobcats and coyotes and they can have an impact on the deer herd if they get to populated. We think we even saw a black panther roaming around on our deer hunting property. I sure would like to get some pictures of it. They are really neat looking.

Have you gotten any good photos of trophy bucks on your property yet? They should be getting bigger everyday! It’s always fun to watch the big bucks grow each year. We have had a huge monster buck on camera for several years now and it is going to be interesting to see what he does this year. He is at the point where we think he might start regressing or even die from old age. He is such a smart mature trophy whitetail and is just absolutely beautiful. He has been the stud on our property for several years now and it will be interesting to see what happens with him this year. I respect him so much he is just a truly awesome creature.
