The Disease Spotted Shed Hunting was fibroma where warts can be bad on the affected deer.
A disease spotted shed hunting turned out to be fibroma. I have been getting pictures of a doe that has spots all over her body, she doesn’t look good at all.
A Disease Spotted Shed Hunting
I was asking wildlife biologist Grant Woods of GrowingDeerTV what he thought it was and he said it looked like Fibroma, a wart like growth that is a disease in deer. He sent me this link on Fibroma and I found it really interesting. Fibroma disease in deer isn’t that common for does to get it occurs more often in bucks. Someone on Facebook asked if this doe should be taken out of the herd if given the chance, and even though in most cases the warts dry up and fall off I would take her out if I could. This particular doe has a nasty looking sore on her back that she has had for some time. I just think she should be taken out but then again you never know she might be just fine in the long run.
Big Buck Sheds Mike found on a recent trip.
I have seen a lot of nice bone being found lately shed hunting. I got out yesterday and checked my camera and put out trail cameras and some corn for the whitetails behind the house . I had one picture of a small looking buck that looked liked he had shed and a few small bucks that still had their antlers. Sometimes it feels like you are looking for a needle in a haystack. I concentrated on field edges and bedding areas and I would have bet money I would have found at least one but that’s the way it goes. It may still be a little early but when you see all those big antlers being found everywhere it makes you think the bucks in your area have dropped too but you never know. I had a great day out in the woods never the less. I am planning on doing some more shed hunting this week. I am determined to find some bone, I have got a lot of walking to do yet. There is a big cedar thicket right behind my house that I want to check out really good. It is a prime bedding location and I would just about bet I’ll find something in there hopefully a big set of massive antlers.
Spook Spann emceed the Monster Bucks Classic big buck contest.
The first annual Monster Buck Classic We Are Kansas hunting show was in Topeka this past weekend and it was awesome. We had a great time all weekend long and talk about a lot of big monster bucks.
Monster Bucks At Classic
These two monster bucks won first place for non-typical bow and gun.
Travis “T-Bone” Turner Bone Collector.
The Little Man Big Dreams Zac Cooper.
Oh my gosh there was some absolute giants there. There was a big typical monster buck that should be the new Kansas State Record Typical whitetail with a gun(there are some questions about weather or not this buck was legally taken and I will just leave it at that until all the facts come out). He will have to be re-scored in a few days once the 60 day drying period is up and if the buck was legally taken it should be the new #1 typical with a gun in Kansas. He unofficially scored 198 7/8 net. The showroom floor was buzzing when it was announced that a potential Kansas State record whitetail had just been scored. There was a big non-typical monster buck that scored in 250’s gross and netted in the mid 240’s, what a stud. The lucky hunter said they had trail camera pictures of him and had been trying to get him with a bow for a few years but just couldn’t pull it off but this year he took him with a gun. He was an awesome buck for sure. There were so many awesome monster bucks it was unbelievable. The show had a lot of great celebrities also, Spook Spann, Travis “T-Bone” Turner, Lee & Tiffany, Pat & Nicole, Zack Cooper, Dan Thurston were all there. And it was so neat to get to meet them and talk deer hunting with them. They were all so nice and and easy to talk too.
Lee & Tiffany The Crush were there meeting people and signing autographs.
There were tons of great vendors with a lot of great products and a lot of great outfitters as well. It was just an all around great show if you love deer hunting. I am already looking forward to next years show. I was fortunate enough to meet the guys running the show and be able to work with them and help them before and during the show and it was a pleasure to meet and work with such a great group of guys and gals. They all worked so hard to bring a great deer hunting show to Kansas and they did just that and I was proud to be a part of it. And I can assure you that they are already working to bring you an even bigger and better show next year. You can visit the official website here for Monster buck Classic.
Our deer hunting property has food water and cover and is a prime location to get big bucks like this one.
I am ready to go deer hunting. Why, you might ask?
Deer Hunting Property
Well today I found out the deer hunting property that I have permission to hunt across the road from where I live, the lady came over today and told me they will be planting in a yearly rotation corn, soybeans and wheat. The property I have permission to hunt butts up to this property where the crops will be planted. And the property that butts up to the other end already is planted in crops every year. So where I hunt will have crops on both ends. It is a beautiful hardwood ridge with two creeks running through it. And a nice thick bedding area. It was already a great piece of property but the new crops on it will definitely improve it tremendously. The biggest problem I have with this is I have to rethink my stand situation.
I plan on going tomorrow and doing some post season scouting and some shed hunting. When I am scouting I will be considering some different stand locations and how the new crops will change the whitetails patterns. I have got a couple of places in mind for stands.
Scouting With Google Earth
I have been studying the land on Google Earth and I see a couple of funnel areas that would be a great spot to ambush a big cruising buck checking the feeding areas for does in estrous. If you haven’t tried Google Earth to scout your properties you might want to check it out it could save you some time scouting.
I was at Cabelas today and I bought some Whitetail Institute 30-06 mineral supplement and I am going to establish a new salt/mineral lick spot. I also got a great deal on a Moultrie I65 Game Spy and I am going to put it out so we can watch them big bucks grow those antlers throughout the spring and summer. I am so pumped up and looking forward to going deer hunting this year.
One of the other reasons I am stoked is I got my new Mathews Z7 today and it is sweet. I have a broken shoulder and a torn rotator cuff and will be having surgery next week and I won’t be able to shoot it for quite some time after that, so even though my shoulder is hurt I just had to shoot it today. And let me tell you I was impressed. The Z7 has a very smooth draw cycle and is quiet as quiet as a church mouse. It is all nice and fast too. I can’t say enough good things about this bow. If you are in the market for a new bow I would definitely recommend giving the Mathews Z7 a look.
