Continue reading »]]> Now that the season is over I have started a deer hunting equipment checklist. I like to get started early getting my deer hunting equipment organised and deciding what I need to upgrade and its priority on my checklist. By knowing what I need for next season early it gives me time to compare different brands and prices of the product I’m wanting to get and look for deals everywhere, weather it be online, in stores, or by word of mouth.  And by the time the season rolls around I’ll have all the things I need for a successful year of deer hunting.

Make your deer hunting checklist early.

There are some things on my checklist that I need to get and some things that I want to get. I’m sure I will see a lot of things I want to get at the upcoming Monster Buck Classic. I can’t wait to see some of the great new products they have at the show. I’m sure there will be a few things there that I just can’t leave there without. By getting started early I can get things one at a time as I have a little extra cash it’s not as hard on my wallet rather than trying to buy it all right before the season. I received a couple of gift cards for Christmas one to Cabela’s and one to Bass Pro Shops and they will really come in handy. A big part of this website is using trail cameras.

Trail cameras are one of the most important pieces of hunting equipment for us here at deerhuntingbigbucks.com.

We like to share pictures with you on here of big bucks and I have several trail cameras but I’m wanting to get one or two more. I am having problems with one of my trail cameras and I need to replace it. In the past I have bought the less expensive devices  and I am thinking I want to get a nicer one that has all the features I am looking for. There are a few other things on my list that I will be looking for soon like a two man ladder stand, a loc-on stand and a ground blind. I also need a few other things like camouflage pants, head-net, beanie, and some gloves for bow season and some to keep me warm when it gets downright cold. As you probably know it can all add up quickly and by making a list early you can shop smarter and get the things you need in the off season by doing a little research and making sure you get what you need at the best prices and make sure you get a good quality product.

This is "Fat Albert" we got a lot of trail camera pictures of him this year.

It will be interesting to see what he looks like next year if we are lucky enough to have him hang around. I can’t wait to see what this big whitetail looks like next year. He is one of my favorite bucks that I got photos of just because he was so fat(we named him “Fat Albert”) and has a freak nasty rack with lots of character. I’m not so sure I would have shot him because he wouldn’t have scored that well but he has been fun to watch all year long and I hope he sticks around for next year. Getting trail cameras pictures all year long has become a big part of this website and is truly addicting. This year I was fortunate enough to have several really nice bucks hanging around my hunting areas to give me some wonderful trail camera pictures to share with you on here. Do you have a favorite whitetail?

monster buck named "The Tall Tine 9"

This is the whitetail we named "The Tall Tine 9".

Even if he’s not the big one, just one that you have grown to know and watch grow throughout the years? I had a very nice 9 pointer that we named ” The Tall Tine 9″ that I was getting tons of photos of all the way up until muzzle-loader season and when “Fat Albert” showed up “The Tall Tine 9″ disappeared and hasn’t been seen since. I don’t know if someone shot him or if the older buck ran him off. I thinking someone shot him but you never know. He may show up later, but I doubt it. What is the longest you have had a buck disappear for only to show up at a later date? I sure hope “The Tall Tine 9″ shows up again. He was a very nice buck with a lot of potential for being a very nice trophy buck this upcoming season. I really wanted to see what he would look like this season. Oh well that is why I keep running my cameras year round for the excitement of not knowing what will be on that SD card when I pop it in my computer. Like my good friend and fellow DHBB Pro-staff member Troy said the other day it’s almost like Christmas every time you check those photos.

I am pumped that it will be time to go shed hunting soon. I can’t wait to get out and beat the bushes looking for those big boys antlers. I hope to find some monster sheds this year. If you find any send us some pictures and we’ll share them on here if you would like us to.

Big buck named "Horn Donkey"!

Getting trail camera pictures of bucks like this one at your deer hunting honey holes can sure fire you up big time.

I hope everyone has had a great year of deer hunting. It has been a great season for us and we have gotten tons of great whitetail trail camera pictures. I don’t know how many trail camera pictures I have gotten but it is a lot. I have been going through them lately and trying to organize them and delete the ones that I didn’t want to keep. It has been a job getting all of them put into folders and keeping them organized. I have three different deer hunting properties that I have permission to hunt, and at all three I’ve gotten trail camera pictures of at least one monster whitetail.

This is the only photo we've gotten so far of this big whitetail.

The biggest buck we got a photo of was a whitetail we named “Horn Donkey”. He didn’t start showing up until around late October in the middle of the night but as the rut approached he started showing up more and more and at first it was all in the dark but then he started showing up in early morning and late evening hours. Then just a few days before we were planning on trying to hunt him on film he started showing up all times of the day. By checking our photos we were able to put together a plan of attack on this big Kansas brute and we filmed him being shot in November. Unfortunately we haven’t found him yet, but I plan on looking all winter and will not give up. I went around to the neighbors and farmers and they all said they would be on the lookout for him. This buck is very special because we believe he could have possibly been a potential Kansas state record typical with a bow on film. So we will not give up looking for him because we believe the shot was a fatal shot.

Trail camera pictures can help you pattern a big buck to help you figure out the best way to get a shot at him.

Some of the other bucks were really nice as well and hopefully they will make it through until next season and we will keep using our cameras to monitor our properties and the bucks on them. So hopefully we will have more great photos to share with you.
