Mature whitetails can really be smart.

Mature Whitetails

Well, I have been getting some great trail camera pictures of some really nice mature whitetails. And I cannot tell you how excited I am to get out and do some deer hunting. Just yesterday I got a picture of one of the biggest mature whitetails that I have ever gotten on a trail camera. It was on one of my favorite deer hunting properties that I have permission to hunt here in Kansas. It is a piece of property that  is awesome and has great potential for holding several mature whitetails and I would not be afraid to say it could possibly have some potential world class bucks on it. There have been sightings of a 200+ inch buck very near this property. So every time I go deer hunting there it is so exciting not knowing what might come through there.

Mature whitetails like this one will be starting to make scrapes and rubs in the next few weeks and be breaking away from the bachelor groups as the pre-rut activity begins.

It is a dream come true to be able to chase huge Kansas bucks on such a prime piece of trophy buck paradise. Just last year I missed what would have been my biggest buck ever on this property. The buck that I got on trail camera might just be the one that I missed last year. I only got three pictures of him yesterday and it is hard to say if it is the same buck or not. The buck I got pictures of yesterday I think is pushing 170″ and would be by far the biggest buck that I have ever taken if I could get him. I know it won’t be easy though, he didn’t get that big by being stupid. My hopes are to get this buck with my bow and get it all on film. But that is easier said than done. My first reaction when I got the picture yesterday besides the yelling from being so excited was to get out there this morning and hunt the set that I have right where I got the picture. The wind is out of the northwest this morning and perfect for this setup. But after talking to my buddies and thinking hard about it I have decided to take my time and be very careful not to bump this buck or screw it up somehow. When you are dealing with bucks of this caliber one wrong move can be the end of the game and he will be gone. To say I am pumped just to be able to try to match wits with a buck of this caliber is an understatement. I have dreamed about this scenario for many years now if I can pull it off it would be a dream come true. If not, no big deal, it’ll be fun trying. And just being out in the woods enjoying the great outdoors is what it’s all about.

Trail Camera Whitetail Footage

A trail camera can help you pin-point hot spots.

Whitetail footage is always fun to get and it won’t be long and it will be time to go deer hunting and get some whitetail footage. I went and checked my trail camera this past weekend. I am fired up, I got my first shooter on trail camera this summer and he is living not even a half a mile away from my house on a piece of property that I have permission for deer hunting on. In about a four day period I got about 650 pictures on that one particular trail camera.

I got some really good pictures of him and he is a big 9 pointer with good mass and great tine length. He is officially on my hit list. I can’t wait to film some awesome whitetail footage this fall it should be a lot of fun.

Whitetail Footage

We will be filming all of our hunts here in Kansas this year and can’t wait to get some great whitetail footage to share with you. My new Canon XHA1s is all decked out and ready to go. I am so pumped for September the 19th to get here. How about you, are you ready for the season? It will be here before you know it.

Now is the time to get those stands out and trim those shooting lanes, dial those bows and guns in early and put the hard work in necessary to get you prepared for the season. Don’t wait till the weekend before the season to get sighted in. The more prepared you are the better your odds will be at killing that trophy buck of a lifetime this fall.

The other day I was out scouting and putting out some minerals for the deer and I spotted two bucks walking across a meadow coming right to me and I had the wind in my face. So I hunkered down in some brush and pulled out my camera and was able to get some really good pictures of them. They walked up to about five yards away before they saw me. It was really neat seeing two bucks in velvet walk right up to me. One was a nice young 9 pointer that has a lot of potential and should be a really nice buck next year. I was kicking myself for not having my video camera I could have really of gotten some great whitetail footage.

DHBB will be filming all our hunts this year and hope to get some great whitetail footage.

I don’t know about you but the Fall is my favorite time of year, the nice cool weather arrives, the leaves change color, deer season finally arrives and college football baby. It just doesn’t get any better than that in my opinion.

If you have questions or need to contact us here at Deerhuntingbigbucks.com feel free to fill out our DHBB contact form.

Whitetail Summer Feeding Pattern

The whitetail summer feeding pattern can be different depending on food sources the deer have access to.The long hot days of summer have arrived and the crops have been planted and are growing nicely around our house here in Kansas. All of these beautiful crops, no wonder Kansas has some great deer hunting.

Crops like these can make a piece of property a prime place for deer hunting.

This evening I loaded up the wife and kids and my Cannon XH-A1s and went for a little drive through the country hoping to see a big buck in his whitetail summer feeding pattern. We headed out a little to early though, we saw quite a few deer and a couple of them were bucks but we didn’t see any of the big bucks. My boys started getting a little restless so we headed back to house just about the time you would expect the big boys to be coming out. I was able to get some deer on film and the boys enjoyed seeing them. I plan on taking quite a few drives this summer and hope to get some really nice bucks in velvet on film. I put my trail cameras out a couple of weeks ago and so far I have gotten a few pictures of some bucks but no big boys yet. The bucks should be in bachelor groups now. During the summer months a whitetail can eat ten to twelve pounds of food per day and as autumn arrives they browse even more to prepare for the winter.

Whitetail Summer Feeding Pattern Velvet Buck

This whitetail visited one of my mineral lick sites while in his whitetail summer feeding pattern.

Mineral Lick sites

The does are busy nursing fawns during the summer. Now is a great time to establish mineral lick sites, and can help a whitetail grow his antlers bigger. The minerals will help the bucks develop their antlers to full potential. Do you put out mineral licks on your deer hunting properties? Mineral licks can improve the antlers on the bucks on your  deer hunting properties. I like the Trophy Rock mineral rocks, the deer really seem to like them. I put out a Trophy Rock on two different properties last week and put trail cameras on them. So I should start getting some good pictures real soon.

Put Out Trail Cameras

I can’t wait to see some of the big deer that we will be getting after this fall. Have you started getting trail camera pictures of big bucks yet? What in the world did we ever do without trail cameras? It is so addicting putting out cameras and getting pictures of those big boys. It can be a great way to pattern them and help you figure out where to get a shot at a buck of a lifetime. So get out those cameras and those mineral licks, you’ll be glad you did when the season rolls around.
