I have put out some mineral lick sites in the last few weeks and deer are really hitting them pretty good. Now is a great time to put out those minerals, the does will be having their fawns before too long and the bucks will be growing their antlers before you know it so it’s good to give them those minerals now. Also it’s time to plant those warm season food plots for deer, turkey, and rabbit. I just love the spring time turkey season is well under way and the fishing is cranking up, but my preparations for next deer season are already under way and I have got some work to do to get ready for next season. I am getting my equipment ready early this year I have got a few things I need to get for next year like some stands and trail cameras and new arrows and broadheads etc.

It has been a busy last few weeks for me, I have been doing some intense four hour physical therapy on my shoulders to get me ready to return to work after being out quite some time for two major shoulder surgeries. I can now pull my Mathews Z7 back without the intense pain like before the surgeries. It sure is a lot better now than it was this time last year, there were times where I didn’t know if I would ever be able to bow hunt again. And for someone who loves bow hunting as much as I do that is a scary thing to think you might not be able to do something you love so much. A big thanks to the doctors and physical therapist you guys are awesome.

I also want to ad a little video I filmed at the first annual Monster Buck Classic We Are Kansas deer hunting show in Topeka Kansas. It was a great show and we are already looking forward to next years show. Talk about some big bucks, Kansas is no joke when it comes to monster whitetails.

Disease Spotted Shed Hunting

Disease Spotted Shed Hunting Fibroma

The Disease Spotted Shed Hunting was fibroma where warts can be bad on the affected deer.

disease spotted shed hunting turned out to be fibroma. I have been getting pictures of a doe that has spots all over her body, she doesn’t look good at all.

A Disease Spotted Shed Hunting

I was asking wildlife biologist Grant Woods of GrowingDeerTV what he thought it was and he said it looked like Fibroma, a wart like growth that is a disease in deer. He sent me this link on Fibroma and I found it really interesting. Fibroma disease in deer isn’t that common for does to get it occurs more often in bucks. Someone on Facebook asked if this doe should be taken out of the herd if given the chance, and even though in most cases the warts dry up and fall off I would take her out if I could. This particular doe  has a nasty looking sore on her back that she has had for some time. I just think she should be taken out but then again you never know she might be just fine in the long run.

big buck sheds found recently

Big Buck Sheds Mike found on a recent trip.

I have seen a lot of nice bone being found lately shed hunting. I got out yesterday and checked my camera and put out trail cameras and some corn for the whitetails behind the house . I had one picture of a small looking buck that looked liked he had shed and a few small bucks that still had their antlers.  Sometimes it feels like you are looking for a needle in a haystack. I concentrated on field edges and bedding areas and I would have bet money I would have found at least one but that’s the way it goes. It may still be a little early but when you see all those big antlers being found everywhere it makes you think the bucks in your area have dropped too but you never know. I had a great day out in the woods never the less. I am planning on doing some more shed hunting this week. I am determined to find some bone, I have got a lot of walking to do yet. There is a big cedar thicket right behind my house that I want to check out really good. It is a prime bedding location and I would just about bet I’ll find something in there hopefully a big set of massive antlers.
